Jeremy Gilley of Palermo, a former U.S. Army specialist with airborne special forces who served in Iraq, lost both his legs in an accident in December after he stopped to help another motorist on Route 3 in Augusta.

A 55-year-old Palermo man died Wednesday night after the truck he was driving veered off the road and crashed into a utility pole, police said.
