Man Facing Murder Charge After Assault Victim Dies of Injuries

According to Ottumwa Police, Maekele Hagos was assaulted outside of "The Elbow Room" during the early morning hours of Sunday, September 7. Hagos died of his injuries Friday morning. Kendrick Lee Jackson, age 30, has been charged with Murder in the Second Degree, a Class "B" Felony.

Indian Hills Community College basketball player charged with theft

An Indian Hills Community College basketball player has been charged with theft after stealing two DVDs from the Ottumwa Wal-Mart on Thursday, September 11. The theft was reported on 7:02 p.m. on Thursday. Jordan Washington is a sophomore at Indian Hills Community College.

Iowa man to serve life in pregnant wife's slaying

An Iowa man convicted of killing his pregnant wife was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday after the victim's relatives called him a coward who betrayed and devastated their family. Relatives of Lisa Techel took turns tearfully confronting Seth Techel during a hearing at the Monroe County Courthouse in Albia, calling the 23-year-old former volunteer firefighter a cold-blooded killer who has put them through hell.

Des Moines River expected to crest Wednesday evening

City officials are carefully monitoring the rising water level in the Des Moines River. Property owners in downtown Ottumwa and in other low-lying areas are being advised to deploy sewer backflow prevention at this time to prevent basement flooding.

Ottumwa man held on $25,000 bond charged with Willful Injury

Just before 3 Sunday morning, the Ottumwa Police Department received a 911 call that reported a person was unconscious in front of a business on East Main Street. The victim was transported to Ottumwa Regional Heath Center and then to the University of Iowa Hospital via air ambulance and remains in critical condition.
