Fireside Fund donations keep Salvation Army staff busy
Phone lines were busy Monday at the Salvation Army of Sumter as caseworker Lucy Copeland received more than 70 phone calls during her first hour at work from people needing help from the Fireside Fund.
Many simply hope to keep warm during holidays
If you ask Salvation Army caseworker Lucy Copeland which Fireside Fund stories stand out to her, she'll quickly respond "All of them." "They are all people who need help, whether they are elderly and living on fixed incomes or living on unemployment after losing their job or trying to get by after an illness," she said.
The education of children living in the rural regions of our county during the early 1800s was primarily the responsibility of the parents.
