The old suspension bridge at Bidwell Bar, which since 1854 has felt the tread of miners' boots, the clattering hooves of countless horses, the rattle of wagon wheels and the noiseless tires of the 20th century's sleek automobiles was officially closed to all but foot traffic last night.
