Ormond approves small tax increase

City Commissioners voted this week to raise the property tax rate on Ormond Beach homes and businesses by about 4 percent. Commissioners approved by a 5-0 vote Monday night a tentative property tax rate of $4.11 per $1,000 of assessed value.

Teen driver may have struck man on Halifax Avenue, killing him, police say

A man who was found dead on a dark stretch of Halifax Avenue Monday evening was struck by a pickup driven by a 16-year-old boy, an accident report shows. Robbie Roberts, 49, of Daytona Beach, was lying across one of the travel lanes at 834 N. Halifax Ave. and was spotted by a passerby, a Daytona Beach police accident report shows.

2nd woman sues South Daytona doctor accused of groping patients

A second woman has filed a lawsuit against a South Daytona doctor accusing him of groping her and trying to pull down her pants during an office visit. Shannon Ferguson, 27, of Port Orange, has filed the lawsuit accusing Dr. Indravadan Shah of battery and inflicting emotional distress during an appointment at his office at Volusia Primary Care, 667 Beville Road.

In a letter directed at alumni of Father Lopez Catholic High School in Daytona Beach, where Bob Arcuri worked as a teacher, Arcuri implores his former students for assistance in raising money to cover Jody Arcuri's legal fees.

Volusia County set to buy Argosy Motel north of Ormond for off-beach parking

Volusia County has reached a potential deal to buy a small piece of beachfront property for parking in Ormond-by-the-Sea, the first piece of its latest push for more room for cars to park just off the beach. The Argosy Motel, a "50's retro-style motel" at 1255 Ocean Shore Boulevard, recently approached the county and agreed to sell for $1.25 million, according to a deal that will be up for Volusia County Council approval next week.
