A Texas man accused in a fatal shooting in Olney, Ill. was found not guilty of the murder charge against him Wednesday.

In 1882, the writer of the History of Pettis County deplored the condition of education in the county schools, noting that "the county can boast of but few professional teachers." The reason was, in part, because of a decision made by the General Assembly that abolished the office of county superintendent of schools after 1874.

Jury selection began Tuesday for the trial of a Texas man accused of shooting and killing another man during a fight in Olney, Ill.
