to all police oficers for future reference. please do not injure these animals . if you have to use your gun on them, please KILL them and spare society of their future releases.

People, re-read the story. It does seem that this was a case of Friendly Fire. Tragic nonehtless. But this is our system, Lewis did do something wrong. But, now in addition to the crimes he is guilty of.. He'll be charged with the shooting death of the Dog, which it seems he might not have done himeself. Not sure it's fair, but legal with the way the laws are written.

Dear Mental Midget,
He is not being charged with murdering an officer as you stated. He is being charged with killing a police dog. Yes, legally a dog is property, which is why in a divorce, one person gets the pet and there is no joint custody, however just as killing a manatee or intentionally running over a duck is a crime, so is killing a police dog.
What do you mean why is K-9 in a police chase and not at a port? Almost every law enforcement agency in the country has a policy on chases which includes the LEAD CHASE vehicle be a K9. Why, because obviously, 9 times out of 10, the suspect runs. Don't believe me, watch cops. Also, considering that you "were close enough to witness first hand" someone giving up and where the suspects hands were and hear what he was saying, I assume that you are an upstanding citizen who does not break the law.

Whatever you did that makes you dislike BSO, these men and women are your front line. They are the ones that need to put their arses on the line despite the danger. If one of these deputies lives has been saved by a dog finding a suspect how can you not agree. How many people fled and hid and were cought by K-9's? Well Jimbo, if he wasn't a thug none of this would have happened, hope he gets the maximun sentence or mysteriously hangs himself in his cell

supposedly the deputy that shot the K9 had an accidental discharge a while back. BUT fear not, everyone that fired their weapons will be rewarded a pin from BSO. These deputies/officers need more firearms training instead of rewards for MISSED shots. You would be suprised how many deputies FAIL qualifications the first time around. All shots are from 15 yards and in (a majority of the qualification is from less than 5 yards away). Kinda sad when you carry a gun with you 40 hours a week.
