Marin domestic violence program targets toys guns, violent videos

District Attorney Ed Berberian, whose firearm buy-back program two years ago was so successful officials scrambled for funds to pay for it, has a new target in mind this fall: Toy guns and violent videos. Berberian is joining forces with the Center for Domestic Peace and Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream to encourage families to get rid of toy guns and violent video games.

Novato man sentenced in DUI bolt from police

A Novato man arrested after a drunken hit-and-run crash on July 4 was sentenced to four years and four months in prison. Jess Aloysius Roach, 43, admitted to charges of felony evading police and misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, said prosecutor A.J. Brady.

Dick Spotswood: Keeping SMART stations 'bare bones' is wise move

San Rafael's and Novato's city councils have just been shown drawings of four new stations now under construction for SMART, the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit's commuter railroad. Council members complained that the new rail stations are bare bones.

Pickup truck hits Highway 101 barrier Friday morning north of Novato, traffic slowed through Petaluma

A pickup truck hit a construction barrier on southbound Highway 101 at the exit near Olompali State Park north of Novato on Friday morning, causing a traffic backup that extended through Petaluma. No injuries were reported by the California Highway Patrol, but work to clear the wreckage quickly slowed the flow of traffic after the accident, which was reported at 6 a.m. At 6:30 a.m., the truck remained in the right lane.

Marin, California roads need more money for mending, report finds

Bad highways and byways cost Marin and other Bay Area residents time and money - about $2,200 per driver, according to a study released Thursday by a group pushing for more road construction. Roads and bridges that are deficient, congested or lack safety features cost California motorists $44 billion each year in repairs, accidents, time and gas burned in traffic, according to a report issued by the Washington-based research and advocacy group The Road Information Program, or TRIP, a nonprofit group funded by highway construction businesses and labor unions, among others.

Novato Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Indecent Exposure, Offering Money To Massage Teens

Novato police have arrested a man suspected of offering money to another man and five juveniles if they would let him massage them, a police sergeant said. Jonathan Matthew Sobol, 27, of Novato, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of indecent exposure and annoying or molesting a child, Howard said.

Novato man, 27, accused of offering youths money to give them massages

A Novato man was arrested on allegations he approached people on six occasions, five involving juveniles, and offered them money to give them massages, police said. Jonathan Matthew Sobol, 27, is also accused of exposing himself to one of the juveniles, but Sobol, reached by telephone Thursday, denied that allegation.

Editorial: SMART station designs should complement cities

If the San Rafael and Novato city leaders were looking for a train station that could fit anywhere, they found one in the generic design offered up by the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit district. It's nothing special; certainly not a design that reflects a sense of place.

Novato charter boat skipper rescues anglers on vessel off Bolinas

The Superfish, an Emeryville-based charter boat, was the first responder when the Flash, a San Francisco charter boat, issued a distress call after it began taking on water near Duxbury Reef off Bolinas, according to Coast Guard Lt. j.g. Amanda Faulkner.
