The Judicial Nominating Commission on Thursday chose five candidates to recommend to Governor Carcieri to fill a Superior Court associate judgeship that opened when Judge Alice B. Gibney became presiding Superior Court judge.

They included a chief prosecutor, the son of a judge and an attorney focusing on civil law, and Tuesday night seven lawyers worked - some behind closed doors - to convince the Judicial Nominating Commission why they should become the state's newest Superior Court judge.
