ANCHORAGE, Alaska - An Alaska man accused of attempted extortion told Alaska State Troopers he would shut down government and commercial entities and teach "crackheads" to make devices that could be used against police, unless the state cut a deal for him to receive $85,000 to pay his bills, according to court documents.

Flint Hills shuts refinery for four days to finish heat recovery project

The Flint Hills Refinery at North Pole has started a four-day shutdown to finish a project under which the refinery is removing some of the heat from the 80,000 barrels a day of oil that it returns to the trans-Alaska pipeline.
