Just as they began returning to some state of normalcy in the wake of a record snowfall, firemen in Monessen were confronted with another major emergency on Friday, Feb.

Police were searching for witnesses Sunday after they said a vehicle hit and killed a man along Interstate 70 in Westmoreland County.

State police still have not been able to identify the man who was killed when he was struck by a car while walking along Interstate 70 in North Belle Vernon.

An unidentified man was fatally struck by a car along Interstate 70 eastbound at 10:50 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Weather is being blamed for two crashes that injured two truck drives, one critically, and closed portions of Interstates 70 and 79 late Friday and early today.

The end result varied greatly by location. The storm that began about 10 p.m. Friday brought either snow or sleet or freezing rain or a mixture.
