They should raise the insurance rates on motorcycles to reflect the costs that are incurred by emergency rooms. Also, you should have to be a mandatory organ donor to get a motorcycle or "donorcycle" license.

I can understand why you would want the insurance coverage to be mandatory but the donor part does not make sense. I could see getting a waiver on the additional insurance if you agree to be a donor though.

Motorcycle rates do reflect the costs... you think insurance companies don't already use statistics to set their rates? You think insurance companies are taking a loss on motorcycles? Think again...

Lucas Valley Road can be tricky on a bike. It's a lot of fun but you have to pay attention. I've been riding since 1966.

Your assuming he doesn't have any/adequate health insurance because he had to be treated in an ER or rides a bike...???
You oppose universal health care too right?

I have a feeling the 16 year old didn't use his turn signal..

and I have a feeling it's because his parents don't either.

Horrifying story -

As the boy slowed down to make a left turn into the driveway at 6300 Lucas Valley Road, the motorcyclist came up from behind at high speed, Rardin said. The motorcyclist suddenly braked, lost control and was ejected. "He continued forward, sliding along the roadway, and collided with the right rear of the SUV," Rardin said. The motorcycle, a 2008 Triumph, came to rest in the westbound lanes.

Every day on 101 many motorcyclists pass between cars that are already going 70 mph - some of them are rocketing along at 80-85. I'm surprised that there aren't MORE accidents involving motorcyclists. There isn't much margin for error when it comes to motorcycles.

It's not unusual to have a car pull a "Brake check". The first warning they are going to turn is a hard use of the brakes. People, turn signals are for warning people of what you intend to do, not what you have started. This is one motorcycle accident vs how many car accidents in Marin every day? My motorcycle rates are low as the possible damage I'll do on my motorcycle is nothing compared to my SUV.

Don't blame this on the driver of the car. The fault is with the rider of the motorcycle who was traveling at a high rate of speed.

What exactly is a high rate of speed? Does it mean that he was exceeding the speed limit? It is also possible that it was neither the kid's or the motorcyclist's fault. Sometimes bad things happen. Unless you were there you shouldn't be placing blame either.

I have a feeling we have a new poster who's going to repeatedly post inane comments. But I've got some advice for you: if you're traveling at a high rate of speed and the driver in front of you is slowing down, slow down yourself. He might damn well be turning...

The other moron (not yourself) insinuated that the 16 year old was at fault for failure to signal. You are correct. I stated the obvious, that you shouldn't need a turn signal to slow down. You ought to take that advice, Probably cut down on that road rash you've been getting...

High rate of speed is relative, but if you don't have enough time to react to a stopped car, you are traveling at a high rate of speed.

How can you say that it's possible that nobody was at fault? If that's the case, that means there was absolutely nothing that could have prevented this, which I do not believe at all.

I ride a motorcycle myself, and unless a deer ran out in the road and caused the driver to slam on his brakes to prevent hitting it, I really don't see how in the world a motorcycle rider can rear end a car or brake hard and lose control and say it wasn't their own fault. C'mon... It's bad the rider went down, but how can not braking in time be anybody elses fault?

Hope the rider pulls through OK...

Daily Horoscope for January 4

Taurus

If your goals are fairly modest in the short term, they are achievable and you're likely to get some praise for achievements along the way. If you aim too high too quickly, others might not take you seriously or think you're being uppity and you could come unstuck. It's all a question of attitude and approach. There are contradictory influences over the next ten days but there could also be good luck coming your way.
