The Carteret County Sheriff's Office released a sketch of an armed robbery suspect who ended up getting pepper sprayed by a victim authorities say he had just robbed and pepper-sprayed. The robbery was May 20th at Gil's Convenience Market & Bar in Newport.

A confirmed tornado in western Carteret County left behind the worst of the damage Wednesday as Tropical Depression Beryl made its pass by the area.

The National Weather Service office in Newport has received reports of a possible tornado causing damage in the western Carteret County area.

Beryl may have dropped from tropical storm to tropical depression status over the course of Sunday night, but the storm is still expected to impact the North Carolina coast this week.
