NEWPORT, AR Newport Police say a plane that crashed within city limits was having engine trouble before it made a crash landing.

NEWPORT, Ark. - An eastern Arkansas town wants to preserve an 82-year-old bridge across the White River that's too old for modern-day traffic but could be converted for other purposes.

The double-cantilevered bridge spanning the White River at Newport is too old to handle modern-day traffic, but even though it is scheduled to be replaced, the Jackson County seat wants to give the 82-year-old fixture a new lease on life.

NEWPORT, AR Firefighters arrived back on the scene of a fire that broke out at a Newport pharmacy, but the rekindled flames were extinguished around 6 p.m. Friday.

According to the Newport Fire Department, Darling Pharmacy is on fire again. Firefighters could see heavy smoke pouring from the already damaged structure when they approached.

Police are currently redirecting traffic on Hwy 17 near Harris Hospital. Please find an alternate route to travel if possible.
