Brooks ask voters to give her a second term

MERCER, Mercer County-- State Representative Michelle Brooks (R) stresses her experience in public service makes her the most qualified candidate or the voters of the 17th Legislative District. Brooks faces challenger and dairy farmer Duke Whiting (D) from the Wilmington Area on Election Day. Brooks says she's worked hard to represent the people in her district, made up of parts of Crawford, Lawrence and Mercer counties. She says she has the experience to make a difference in solving problems and creating opportunity in the region. "I stand for bringing jobs to this area," Brooks told TR News reporter Jordan Early. "I want to make Pennsylvania more competitive economically and I also stand for real true property tax reform." Brooks entered public service in the mid-90s as a Jamestown Borough Council member and later served on the Mercer County Board of Commissioners. The mother of two stresses she's committed to the voters as she seeks her second term in the state legislature where she says state leaders must learn to operate better for the voters. "We need to look at how to run government better," Brooks said. "We need to operate more efficiently and more effectively. We need to streamline everything and look at ways to reduce waste."
