A wildfire located roughly 17 miles east of Covington in the Simpson Creek drainage of eastern Alleghany County and western Rockbridge County grew an additional 1,000 acres fueled by strong winds Wednesday.

The US Forest Service says four separate fires are burning in the George Washington-Jefferson National Forest.
