You never thought the Indians would even think about a smoking ban, much less talk about one. Damn are you stupid. Indians dont want to die either.

No, it it not a done deal, but if passed would be a TOTAL ban in the Casino:

"The overall effect of a ban on tobacco would have a serious detrimental effect on the gaming facility," said Bob Winter, the tribe's gaming czar. "All of our competitors allow smoking. If Navajo is the only facility to ban smoking, we would expect to lose at least 18 percent of our gross income."

"If the tobacco-free law is passed, the Navajo Nation would be among the first tribes to implement such a law. The Blackfeet Nation and Fort Peck Tribe, both in Montana, have banned the use of commercial tobacco"

The Blackfeet Nation ban:
http://www.indianz.com/News/2005/009525.asp
http://www.goldentrianglenews.com/articles/20... ’s Blackfeet become world’s first smoke- and tobacco-free tribe
The Blackfeet Tribe is the first native tribe in the world to take a stand against the use of commercial tobacco. As of Sept. 1, 2005, the Blackfeet nation is completely smoke- and tobacco-free. The reservation, which is located in Montana, implemented a comprehensive ban that includes both commercial cigarettes and spit tobacco. Commercial tobacco products are prohibited in all indoor venues, including bars and *****casinos*****.

hmm, don't seem to enthused at the losses an dFYI, 80% is not 100 %

The Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprise opposes the measure, saying it would put the tribe's first casino at a disadvantage against others in the area.

"The overall effect of a ban on tobacco would have a serious detrimental effect on the gaming facility," said Bob Winter, the tribe's gaming czar. "All of our competitors allow smoking. If Navajo is the only facility to ban smoking, we would

expect to lose at least 18 percent of our gross income."

The tribe's Fire Rock Casino is scheduled to open later this year. About 80 percent of it will be smoke-free, including parts of the bingo hall, the restaurant and the poker room, Winter said. A ventilation system also will be installed, he said.

They need to take a good look at the kind of trashy people who are pushing smoking bans, like this person

Nah, I think all they need to do is look at the trashy smokers.

By the way, I have not noticed that you get on happy contented clown for all of his violent propositions. It must be that if a smoker says something, no matter how oulandish, you agree with it and if a non smoker says something, no matter how logical you disagree with it.

Although my post about kids was meant as sarcasm, since you were too wrapped up in your addiction to get it, I hope the shock and horror of ot caused you to piss yourself.

"It's a healthy decision," said David Begay, a medicine man from Ganado, Ariz. "I would say the majority of Navajo people probably support it. What people do at the home as far as smoking is concerned ... that's their decision. We're talking about public places."

"The proposed law largely would be a preventative measure to discourage people from smoking and keep others from starting, said Patricia Nez Henderson, vice president of the Blackhill Center for American Indian Health."

Well if that doesn't plainly say that it's NOT about nonsmokers health, i don't know what does.

Note, it says outlawing commercial tobacco....i wonder who makes the 'other' kind.....hmmmmm

The 'other' kind is ceremonial tobacco, used during Native American religious rites as opposed to cigarettes used to slake the urges of a nicotine addiction.

The use of the phrase "commercial tobacco" could also refer to brands made and sold by traditional tobacco companies as opposed to those sold and branded by Native Americans. Natural Spirits have certainly caught on. The sale of cigarettes on reservations has been a cash cow to Native Americans where taxes have driven millions directly to them. Perhaps they will only allow customers to smoke only Native American cigarettes at the casino rather than "commercial tobacco."
