Tell that to the news media and your federal, state and local governments.

RAPE..No matter the color of ones skin is a crime. Much less a child. Maybe he should be moved to another district in the parish for his next sentencing phase, as it seems that his being released on bond was a very wrong choice. Sounds like the boy has a real problem. And hopefully will be denied bail this time.

No one should really be surprised about any of this.
Just a sign of a liberal society. I say no bond this time. Let him rot in jail.

Bond, like free speach is a Constitutional right we are afforded, and the Constitution is applicable in Natchitoches too. If the DA is upset he can appeal. Although this forum may not like it, it does look like the release of the young man was legal.

This liberal line of thinking is what I was referring to earlier. Bond is set at the judge's discretion. If the judge believes the accused is a flight risk or will continue to harm society, the judge can and should deny bond. Yeah, he was released the first time, but this time, especially since it was a minor he raped, the judge should deny bond and put him in jail until his trial - no bond.

One more thing, if the first rape victim was a minor, he should have been denied bond the first time. I have no, absolutely no, sympathy or concern for anyone who abuses a child - physically, sexually, mentally, or emotionally!

Why is it that these people who run for judge always say they are going to be tough on criminals, but now the parish is full of violent criminals, like this one, running around the city (and parish) dealing their drugs, raping and doing whatever else they do?

Too bad the local news media does not have good investigative reporters to check this stuff out.

Example: A few weeks ago a Turner was arrested for drugs and weapons charges. From what I understand, this is one very bad dude. Big reports about his arrest, and nothing more. Is he out on bond?

I have to correct a statement I made earlier. I do have a concern for anyone who abuses a child physically, sexually, mentally, or emotionally. My concern is that they will not be given the punishment they deserve. Put up an electric chair on the riverfront stage and fry them in public.

I know that suspected criminals have rights and that is well and good; however, the judicial system in this country must consider the rights and protection of society as a whole and in particular the rights of the victims. In today's liberal society, there is too much concern for the criminals rights.

If any of you are wondering why I keep ranting on this subject, it is because I have seen the results of severe child abuse first hand. As a child my friend was so abused by her father in every way possible, that she cannot remember the first seven years of her life - nothing. Her sisters and brother will not talk about it to this day. She is now in her 50s. The stories she can tell from 8 years old to 18 years old (when she ran away) are simply unbelievable.

If any of you readers know of any form of child abuse, please report it to the authorities ASAP. Please protect our children, because they are too vulnerable to protect themselves.

Used to b....you are on target with your comments....actually near the bullseye. Bail schedules can be raised or ignored if appropriate, but judges want to keep their jobs, so they generally follow the schedule. I hear a lot of cops complaining that those they arrest are able to make bail and get out. It is unfortunate that those bailed go out and repeat their crimes. As for the judges....I posted earlier how would a Judge Roy Bean type would do in Natchitoches? He would not be appreciated by many. And it all gets down to money...people make money off of bonds and it cost money to keep people locked up. Without recidivism, defense attorneys lose work and the courts aren't as crowded, thus plea bargains and lesser punishments like probation aren't available. It is a big mess. As far the judges, they campaign on being tough on crime, and in the same sentence you hear of their compassion. Unfortunately in Natchitoches, those wanting tough and those wanting compassion is split upon racial lines, and to get re-elected both sides must be played to. That is why you won't see a tough law and order judge. A tough law and order judge will be denounced by some community leaders and pulpits. Most importantly, campaign donations from the defense bar will not appear, and we all know Louisiana has too many lawyers.

By the way....your name is incorrect. You can tell by your posts that you are concerned....

Eyes on Natchitoches, you make some great points. But I do think we need to look further into how the court system in Natchitoches Parish actually works. It is less about the judges and more about the D.A.'s office. As I am sure you already know, the hub of the court system is the D.A.'s office. Who is in charge there? Is it Van or is it Danny. How often do we actually see criminal trials taking place? Not often. Most cases end up with plea bargain agreements reached. That plea bargain is often reached in a pre-trial conference or most often at Danny's desk. The judge simply accepts the recommendation made by the D.A.'s office. No trial and no sentence by the jury or judge. We also have to remember that Danny usually decides whether a case is dismissed or comes to court. I think Van has become very distanced from the court proceedings because Danny takes care of business. Maybe we should give Danny a raise? What do you think? Judge Roy Bean would be out of business here because the cases would never get to trial.

LMAO..you are correct. Yes the DA plays his role, and the same holds true for him about the tough on crime/compassion dilema. I spoke to someone in the DA's office this week and they said no major trials were currently scheduled, but a lot of indictment work was being done. But we will still get the same ....plea bargains and probation.

And I do believe FORCIBLE RAPE of a 14 yr old is serious enough to DENY a bond, whether it be the D.A.s office or the Judge who devides. He needs to stay locked up...for LIFE!

Eyes on Natchitoches,

I am glad we agree on this issue. Your post #16 is also right on target, and emphasizes what I am trying to say. For what ever reason (judges, DAs, jail space, money, liberal thinking, re-election, etc.) the welfare of the general public seems to be ignored, not only in this parish, but nation wide. And yeah, bring in Judge Roy Bean - I really like that idea. And with him, public hangings may help deter crime.

Eyes, please keep us informed on this case and the Turner case. Is Turner out on bond? Will this scum bag be given bond - again?

If this trend continues, it may be time to start thinking about new judges and a new DA. Don't get me wrong, I have the utmost respect for all 3 of these people. I have served on a petty jury and a grand jury, so I have some limited experience.
