Slots suit 'preposterous,' ex-chief justice says...
A spokesman for Gov. Ed Rendell denied claims made in a federal lawsuit that Rendell made a secret deal with the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to trade favors for the court's support of slot machine legislation.
The spokesman, Chuck Ardo, said if any secret meetings were held, Rendell ''certainly had no knowledge of them. There were no secret deals, no secret negotiations the governor either partook in or was aware of.''
His comments Tuesday came a day after the League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania filed the suit, which alleges former Supreme Court Chief Justice Ralph Cappy cut a deal with Rendell and several high-ranking lawmakers for their support for judicial pay raises.
