Wal-mart gives money to local charities
Several charitable groups were the recipients of help today at the ribbon cutting of the Wal-mart remodeling completion.. Scottsbluff Wal-mart employees presented checks to eight different organizations this morning as part of the re-grand opening of their store.
Schools closed, flight canceled as area waits for snowfall
Several schools have closed Wednesday due to the winter storm. Bayard, Banner County, Morrill, Kimball, Lake Minatare, Hemingford, Kimball, WNCC's Alliance campus and the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing are all closed Wednesday.

Positive mosquito test shows WNV season is here
A day after it was announced birds in Morrill and Dawes counties tested positive for West Nile Virus, Scotts Bluff County Health Director Bill Wineman says a mosquito sample west of Morrill has also tested positive for the disease.

The slow west nile season is now starting to pick up. Scotts Bluff County received word from the state testing lab in Lincoln that some mosquitoes collected in Scotts Bluff County, near the town of Morrill, tested positive for west nile.

Gov. Dave Heineman has declared a state of emergency in response to high winds, heavy rain, flooding, and hail that started June 5 and continued through the night of June 10 in central and western Nebraska.
Panhandle to benefit from tire recycling and cleanup projects
The state is awarding more than $2.5 million to support tire recycling and cleanup projects across Nebraska, with 10 Panhandle projects getting more than $157,000. Department of Environmental Quality Director Mike Linder say the money will help gather in nearly 1.2 million scrap tires.
