The clock was turned back on Montalvo's historic villa Sunday night as it was transformed into a 1950s Cuban nightclub for the Saratoga art center's biennial fundraiser. Co-chairs Marcia Hansen and Sydene Kober pulled out all the stops, with mojitos in the Italianate Garden, Cuban contemporary art, vintage fashion and classic cars on the grounds.

Morgan Hill: Motorcyclist dead after crashing into tree
A motorcyclist died when the bike slammed into a tree at Sycamore Drive and Oak Glen Avenue on Tuesday night, according to the California Highway Patrol. The CHP did not know what caused the vehicle to hit the tree, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Last of Milpitas school district 2012 general obligation bonds sold
Milpitas Unified School District's Board of Education heard a report on the sale of series B of the 2012 general obligation for $40-million Measure E bonds and a 2010 bond refunding close out Aug. 26. Board members expressed happiness after being told that the district fell into the top tier of school districts, and that refinancing the bonds at lower interest rates would save taxpayers $4.7 million in the long run. Milpitas Unified School District's Board of Education voted June 24 to authorize the issuance of series B of the 2012 general obligation bonds and to refinance existing bonds at lower interest rates.

Morgan Hill: Burning body found near reservoir is identified
A 35-year-old San Jose woman has been identified as the victim whose burning body was abandoned on a remote road in unincorporated Morgan Hill last week, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office said. Just after 8 a.m. the morning of Aug. 28, a motorist called 911 after seeing smoke emanating from the roadside on Oak Glen Avenue near the Chesbro Reservoir realized it was a body smoldering after being set on fire, authorities said.

Former Morgan Hill Child Care Worker Pleads Not Guilty To Child Sex Abuse, Pornography Charges
A man pleaded not guilty Tuesday to sexually abusing children, including one who was 3.5 years old, and possessing child pornography while a YMCA child care worker in Morgan Hill in 2013, a prosecutor said. Nicolas Lhermine, 21, was arraigned in Santa Clara County Superior Court in Morgan Hill on six felony charges, the most being severe oral copulation or penetration of a child under 10, that may result in a sentence of 15 years to life in prison, according to Deputy District Attorney Stewart Scott.
