Yea, pick on the poor middle class and tax, tax, tax. We cannot even enjoy a smoke any more without the state wanting a puff. Tax the heck out of anything we can enjoy, don't allow us to have any enjoyment in life without being taxed. Is there anything in Pa that isn't taxed.........air maybe, can they tax a smile, how about a good bowel movement? There has got to be a tax created for relieving oneself.

The manager of Puff N Snuff says that a smoker lighting up while driving will not cause the damage someone drinking and driving could-yes that is more than likely true unless the smoker is really driving carelessly while lighting up. But what about the damage the smoker does to his or her own body and the secondhand smoke. Outside Walmart the other day a man was smoking a cigar and my daughter and I coughed for several minutes after passing through the haze. Smoking kills-just not the same way drinking and driving does. My father-in-law suffered many years from the effects of smoking until he died. So smoking is not as harmless as the managers of these tobacco stores would have you think!

Smoking is voluntary. If you don't like the costs - quit.

They will never tax exercise, healthy eating, and spending time with your kids. Why don't you quit doing something that's killing you and poisoning your kids, save some money, and take care of your sorry carcass.

Everybody has their pleasures...to say one particular thing should be taxed as much as possible because it disgusts you is retarded.

Your snob should be taxed since it disgusts me.

Yes, if you want to smoke you have to pay...Smoking is disgusting....The money a smoker spends in a year I could go on a nice vacation....So don't whine about the tax....It is to expensive to smoke..I have better things to spend my money on like food....If you want to complain then give it up it's not good for your health or anyone around you...

I don't smoke. So, therefore, I am unable to comply with your snobbery.

Ah, but taxing one's freedom to enjoy a guilty pleasure above all else is messed up. The laws are dictating what a smoker can afford.

Lower taxes on tobacco is smarter for more revenue though...more sales, more money going into the tax revenue, and the store selling tobacco won't have to close up shop.

Losing business and a smaller tax revenue will only dig a bigger hole for PA. Our govt can't sustain itself, so it needs to tax, tax, tax.

The state is raising taxes on cigs, why doesn't the billion dollar smoking companies drop the price to match the increase? I mean come on, they will still profit millions and it might even show that they care. HA

At some point less and less people will smoke. The revenue (taxes) from smokers will slowly drop. I can bet you they will come after alcohol next. That $1 draft night will be $2 in a few years.

Here is what Jefferson had to say about all this...

"We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty or profusion and servitude.

If we run into such debt, as that we must be taxed in our meat and
in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our calling and our creeds...we will have no time to think, no means of calling our miss-managers to account
but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers...

And this is the tendency of all human governments. A departure from principle in one instance becomes a precedent for another...
till the bulk of society is reduced to be mere automatons of misery...

And the fore-horse of this frightful team is public debt.

Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression."

Its high time for the people of this state and country wise up . Our leaders who we elect to work for us have not lived up to the task . They don’t know how to fix a problem if they can’t throw money at it. The problem is they spend our money under the ploy that they care about us, but the truth is they could care less . Smokers, over weight people , uninsured people , are the excuse our elected officials use to raise money to fix the problems they could have avoided , by being leaders not fund raisers [ taxes ]. Its time to stop throwing money at our problems , and replace these unqualified caretakers of our tax dollars and replace them with more qualified men and women . Remember these people in office could care less about your health they want your money ! So therefore these people are the cancer on the backs of the U S citizen , so lets cut it out Dr. voter if they hold a office vote them out , after about four election cycles better men and women will start to appear.
