Suspect arrested in one White County robbery
MONTICELLO -- One robbery investigation in White County netted a second arrest Thursday. Another investigation remained stagnant. Andrea E. Vaughn, 18, of Monticello, was arrested Thursday by Monticello police on a warrant for aiding robbery and aiding in attempted robbery in connection with three incidents that happened between the hours of 3:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. Wednesday. The businesses robbed were the Admiral Gas Station in Monticello and the Family Express in Monon. The attempted robbery took place at Main Street Station in Monticello. Raymond L. Kestner, 20, of Monticello, was arrested Wednesday and was being held on suspicion of committing the robberies, as well as several property thefts from vehicles in the Monticello area. Monticello police Chief Randy Soliday said police are not seeking anyone else in connection with the robberies. Some of the money and property taken has been returned, Soliday said. Meanwhile, Indiana State Police continued to investigate the Tuesday shooting of a Carroll County man. He was shot by a police officer after fleeing and breaking into an occupied residence, Indiana State Police Sgt. Tony Slocum said. The shooting came after two robberies in a span of 15 or 20 minutes, followed by a police-action shooting of one of the suspects -- a 43-year-old Carroll County man who remained in critical condition Thursday at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Slocum said the suspect's name will not be released until he is charged or arrested. Because the man remains hospitalized, it was unclear Thursday when either of those things would happen. A passenger of the suspect, who originally fled on foot, has been released and is not charged with a crime. At this time, no charges are anticipated for the passenger. Soliday declined to comment on the shooting, but he said having the officer involved in the shooting placed on paid administrative leave has made a noticeable impact. The Monticello Police Department has 12 officers, including one in the police academy and one who was just sworn in Thursday morning and is not yet on the road. 'Being a smaller department, having an officer out does affect the department,' Soliday said.
Gun used in morning White County robbery spree
A day after a man suspected in two robberies was shot in Monticello, two more robberies and an attempted robbery were reported early this morning in White County. According to the Monticello Police Department the three latest reported crimes are connected: • 3:45 a.m. at the Admiral Gas Station, 843 N. Main St, in Monticello: A caller said a white male, described as tall and thin wearing jeans and a black hoodie, entered the store and demanded money. He left on food with an undetermined amount of cash. • 4:30 a.m. at the Main Street Station, 912 S. Main St., in Monticello: A man matching the description from the earlier robbery entered the store and demanded money. When the clerk refused, the man fled on foot. • 5:58 a.m. at the Family Express Station in Monon: A man with a gun demanded money. He left with an undetermined amount of cash and fled on foot.
