Post office eyes plan to cut retail outlets
Ever heard of Modoc, Cordesville or Gable, South Carolina? A plan by the U.S. Postal Service to potentially close more than 1 in 10 of its retail outlets could further erode public awareness of those tiny areas throughout the state – and nation.
Corps to wait for full turbine use
The Army Corps of Engineers will have to wait one more year to operate all four of Russell Dam's reversible turbines during warm weather months, even though the last court-approved mitigation project was completed this spring.
Thurmond Lake picnic areas to open May 1
The Army Corps of Engineers will open many of its Thurmond Lake picnic areas May 1. Georgia sites include Gill Point, Amity Park, Big Hart, Lake Springs and West Dam Recreation Area.
9-year-old Killed in Dog Attack
A 9-year-old McCormick girl was killed Saturday by a family dog while visiting her grandfather's home in the Modoc community.
