Many local folks probably think they know who Roger Tappen is -- culinary critic, accomplished chef, caterer and author of the cooking column "Good Taste," which has appeared in Public Opinion for close to 25 years.

Gloria M. Gaugler, 87, of Niles, passed away at 6:25 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at the Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home.
Hillendale tree planting, Oct. 12
Hillendale Elementary School will be the site of a tree-planting project, Saturday, Oct. 12, as volunteers are needed to help plant some 600 trees on school property as part of an improved storm water management plan for the area.
