Social Media & Professionally-Scripted Video To Make Lake County More Attractive

Hidden Valley Lake - When Jack and Karen Lair decided to turn their convenience store into something more than a gas station with groceries, I doubt they set out to introduce Hidden Valley Lake to the wonders of Social Media and professionally-scripted video production. But, as of Sunday, Nov. 8th, their Hidden Valley Food Mart has introduced all of Lake County to the first Social Media Workshop Meetup. Registered participants brought laptops to the workshop to receive "hands-on" help concerning computer clean-up of unnecessary files. Mark Rudiger of LakeCountyWebsites passed out special flash drives with software designed to make the operation of those computers become faster and more efficient. Once the computers were cleaned up, it was time to learn about Social Media - including such wonderful services as budURL, Twitter, Aardvark, Skype and Squidoo.

The Power of Mutual Collaboration is Alive and Well in South Lake County

Hidden Valley Lake - Early on in the month of October, Pastor Walt Trumbo of the Hidden Valley Community Church did something unusual. He asked his parishoners to come to church the following Sunday dressed in bluejeans. He told them that there would be no sermon that morning. Instead, just praise and worship. In fact, he said the overall church service would be extremely brief. And, can you guess why? So, the parishoners could leave the church, go out into the community and do yard work or some other form of manual labor. There were four destinations - the Middletown Cemetery, the PACK Facility, the Middletown Senior Center and the Middletown Central Park. The idea here, according to Pastor Trumbo, was not simply to have a church service on Sunday, but to demonstrate "being the church." And, what does that mean? It means being of service to others...unconditionally.
