So who's going to be financially liable for the expense of this clean up? The boys? The school? The old shop owner?.... My guess, the good ole tax payer, once again!!!

The school can and most likely will expect the families to pay for the expense. If the families refuse, the school can file a lawsuit against. It isn't any different than any other type of damage or vandalism caused by a student in that respect.

Yes, indeed the boys families can be held financial liable in the court of law. You see the boys, wrongfully obtained property that wasn't there's (theft),that they had no legal right to, and then proceeded took take an item that they knew nothing about to a state funded school. The boys created a hazardous materials threat, in doing so. The boys actus reus (their actions IE picking up the switches filled with mercury), then lead to the hazardous materials threat, thus signifying grounds for causation.

Their exact actions, are what caused the problem at the school. The issue of the mercury at the abandoned shop, is a separate issue, that is no ones concern, but the appropriate parties involved. And as much as you would like to believe so, the appropriate parties involved are not those with children at the school, or the citizens of Kirklin, In. The EPA, and the DA I am sure are working to handle this jointly.

Whew, now everyone rest your little heads.

The schools insurance is picking up the tab, trust me on this, also they are not done cleaning, the company doing the cleanup is still there around the clock with 10-12 guys.

I heard the school insurance is picking up the tab and then has plans to go after the previous owners of the site. Evidently, all the boys are getting out of this is detention. Even though one played with the mercury in the resource room & contaminated all the teachers books. The EPA even visited student homes to test. Carpet in the band room has been replaced. And a few students have lost their book bags & shoes to the incinerator.
