Both Wal-Marts are undergoing the same renovations, so what is happening here is happening in Alamo too.

Everything on action alley has been put in storage, it's been a clean sweep starting getting rid of everything that could be taken out.

I think the entire electronics dept. in Alamo may have already gone.

They have set a September deadline for the renovations to be finished, so folks had better get used to it.

What a wonderful opportunity to buy from local merchants. ;-)

Not only do the Apaches suffer the loss, kids who do 4H projects and can't pay the expensive material costs at other local stores also suffer. WalMart was the only place we shopped for material for those projects. It is very sad that even after signing those petitions in the store and voicing our opinions, they still closed the fabric department.

What about Martha's Fabrics in Ruidoso? I have been in there a few times and it seems to have an extensive inventory. They are located at the end of Sudderth, at upper canyon.

Someone should open a fabric, sewing, etc store. Rent or buy the building at 714 Mechem. It is perfect!

If fabric sales are so unprofitable that Wal Mart did away with it, what makes you think it would be a good business venture. I liked the fabric department too but it was never a major hub of retail activity and although I will miss it I understand it from a retail point of view. Fabric departments have gone the way of home education kitchens in our schools.

I thought they had taken it out ONLY because of the building renovations. It was my understanding that it will be back in September - when the renovations are finished.

Did I get it wrong?:o

The funniest thing said was, "if they are going to be like that, they might as well shut the whole store down." Hahaha, dubest thing I've heard all day, and I can even hear the accent. Great comedy.

This is just guess work on my part because I don't even know when the fabric department disappeared.

I went to Wally World 3 days ago and everyone looked like they had been dragged through a hedge backwards.

I asked what was going on... and where was EVERYTHING from action alley? The whole store looked like it had been swept clean.. nothing in action alley, all the 2@$10 movie's gone.

I was told that everything that was dispensable had been put in storage because of the renovations, and those items wouldn't be brought back until post renovation in September.

I phoned my daughter to see if she could grab some movie's while coming back from T or C and she said the entire electronics dept. has gone in the Alamo store..

Because THEY are renovating at the same time.

When I saw the thread about the fabric department it just sounded like they had moved that out of the way.. but it's only an assumption.

No-one should become dependent upon Wally World for anything, because this company will discontinue any item.. even if it's a top seller .. if the company who manufactures it won't play ball with them.

If groups like the 4-H need a reliable supply of fabric or crafts material they are going to have to go on-line and find a supplier, or get someone to pick up supplies in Albuquerque or El Paso.

But you simply cannot depend upon one store. If you do you will regret it sorely.

But I looooovvee Wally World!!

Going online is a great idea. I shop the internet alot too. Lots of good deals to be had and more choices.

Btw, they are remodeling alot of Walmart stores, even in other states. Those departments should all be back.

It's a running joke in our house that if something is a good seller they will refuse to stock it anymore because it's to hard to keep on the shelves. One time I found a baking product that you can't find in this part of the country. I bought all of it. It was never restocked. To hard to keep on the shelves.

I agree completely with Karen, what Walmart has done is very bad for the locals in the area.

I talked to the Walmart manager in Las Cruces because they too have done away with their fabric department. The manager said it was the executive office at Walmart that ordered all the fabric departments to be closed down.

It's a shame, Walmart puts other business out of business then drops the consumer like a flat iron. I shop as little as I have to at Walmart, anyway nearly everything in the store is made in CHINA.

The Walmart in Alamo will supposidly "downsize" their fabric department, yeah right.

Las Cruces has Jo Ann's and Hobby Lobby but the prices are very high, and then there's the inconvenience of having to drive out of town.

Dang, you go check the prices of the material at Martha's Fabrics. Plan on paying at least $6 a yard or more!

It seems that I was wrong and Wal-Mart have taken the fabric department out altogether.

I don't think the statement is funny, I think it has an odd ring of reality to it. Not because everyone uses the fabric department, but because it shows no consideration to the customers who have been loyal to Wal-Mart.

The fabric department has a higher clientele than, say, towels/sheets etc. Or the fish/pet department.

So what next?

Ironically everything is now ordered from headquarters so this year a load of plants came in which cannot survive in this altitude. I guess the twits in Arkansas don't realize that Ruidoso is on a mountain.

The plants that do thrive at this altitude probably went to Phoenix.

Anywhere you go...people will never be happy. I love to sew camp dresses and would like to someday learn to sew teepees, however...where there is a will there is a way. I was always taught to look at the positive side of things...and complaining a making a big scene is NOT the Apache Way!!!! Alamogordo Walmart does have fabric...the same fabric as the Ruidoso Walmart had. It may have been more convienent, but if i have to take little longer drive to Alamogordo...then I will do so!!

Geronimo said. "I guess this is just the white man's way of doing things, but this is the Southwest. It is native American country. When they bring something like this to us we consider it a promise. Closing it is breaking that prom-ise."

Get over yourself. Quit holding on to the past. Things change and that's just how it is. It was not the white man's way. This change was brought upon by many people of different races. Ignorance and prejudice will get you nowhere.
