Fire destroys Gary building; demolition planned
Deputy Fire Chief Mark Jones said Gary, Merrillville and Munster fire departments battled the blaze in the vacant hotel building, at 8th Avenue and Washington Street, which adjoins God's House of Prayer Jones said the building was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived shortly after 11 p.m. They fought the blaze until about 3:30 a.m., he said.
