After listening to concerns from multiple residents Wednesday, Miami County commissioners unanimously voted to deny a request for a conditional-use permit for a dog kennel that was recently set up northeast of Fontana.

Gov. Sam Brownback reversed course last week on part of the plan to overhaul the state Medicaid system when it concerns the physically and developmentally disabled after hundreds including Jefferson County Commissioners objected.

Former Jefferson County Second District Commissioner David Christie, rural Meriden, announced on Saturday that he is a candidate for Jefferson County Sheriff.
