I Don't think it is the asbestos the district needs to worry about. It is the stupidity if the parents that didn't let their children go to school because someone with a grudge videotapes something that has been there since the school was built. Asbestos is everywhere and on everything we use and in almost all the houses in eagle estates.
The truth is that if no one is touching it, Which no one is there is nothing to be concerned about. I wonder how many perents called their lawyers already looking for a lawsuit.

Hey Joe,

The parents that kept the kids home did so because they were unsure of what was going on. That is the districts fault, not the parents.

Are you sure asbestos is everywhere? I am very sure it is not on everything we use. At least not on everything I use. Maybe your different. It is hard to believe that almost every house in eagle Estates has asbestos in them. I would love to know where you get that figure from.

Just so you know, asbestos is more dangerous in the airborne fiber form then it is by touching it alone. Sit in a hallway one day as the sun comes through the window and look at all the particles that are in the air we breathe. I am not saying it is asbestos. However, I think I would want more information from the right sources before I believe a comment from someone that has something to lose.

Finally, I have no idea how many parents called an attorney today. I suspect you have those figures wrong as well. But who knows.

If you believe that this is not a real problem, tell that to the law firms that run commercials non stop on TV day and night. Where do you think they get the money from to run those commercials about asbestos cases?

I live in eagle estates, The asbestos Shingles removed when i had my house resided are made from none other. And since every house was built with the same poor quality standards, And since i can drive down the road and see for myself that most people still have the same shingles on the sides of there houses i can properly equate that they are covered in asbestos.
That smell you get when you get new brakes on your car/truck guess what, your smelling asbestos.
those hard floor tiles everyone walks on in stores and schools.you got it.
There are thousands of other applications for asbestos that isn't talked about everyday.
I just can't wait to see when all these complaining parents finally get what they want. the school has to hire a company to come in and remove all the asbestos. I want to be there to see the look on their faces when they get a bill for a few million dollars and my budget that has just failed gets sucked dry. I want to see the look on their faces when there property tax doubles.

I was at the meeting last night and the problem is that there was an illegal abatement done in a classroom while school was in session. A janitor was ordered to clean up broke tiles that contained asbestos. And they couldn't provide an air teset on that room prior to the tiles being cleaned up. Parents have a right to be concerned because their school board officials are LYING to them to cover their own jobs. IMO somebody needs to take responsibility for this.

Joe,

Your first post mentioned you had asbestos INSIDE the house. The siding on your house like many other asbestos items including ceiling tiles, floor tiles, and brake pads (that for the most part are not being used anymore), are encapsulated using a method that keeps all fibers from becoming airborne. The smell of new brakes in your car is probably NOT asbestos. Now look at asbestos pipe insulation. See if there is a difference between that and asbestos that is encapsulated. You will see the difference right away.

The complaining parents are not the problem. The method that the school was using was not legal. And the proper removal of the offending asbestos is a mandate from the government, not complaining parents.

Your facts are off in most cases. If the worst case scenario is that the school district must hire a company to remove ALL the asbestos in every school in the PAT-MED district, property taxes will not double. You are either trying to scare people or simply uneducated about the cost of asbestos removal and property taxes. But you know that already.

A small message for "Popheadinass". Some of your facts are correct. I know many schools have asbestos in them. And you are correct in saying if they are not disturbed, they pose little health risk. However, the asbestos in this particular school was disturbed and it was done incorrectly. You should also know that asbestos in this school was not just located in a boiler room or tunnel. I will let you do the research to find out where it was as you have clearly failed to do that.

Also, many asbestos floor tiles, depending on manufacturer, can utilize upwards of 25% asbestos and not the 1% you claim. I have no idea how much asbestos we breathe with our car windows open and based on your other facts, neither do you. But I would also remind you that for the most part, asbestos is no longer used in brake pads like they once were.

Finally, I realize that breathing asbestos fibers IS a health issue, I am not sure that stuffing it up someone’s backside is healthy or not. Or maybe that was your cure for the problem?

Joe is so correct.Asbestos is in EVERY school building built before the late 1980's and is harmless to students if it is not disturbed. It is located in boiler rooms and tunnels where neating pipes are located. The Great Abatement Debacle of the early 90's was a big money farce as it just cost taxpayers money removing something that was not a problem in it's undisturbed state. Some floor tiles contain 1% asbestos and is harmless to kids even if when it comes loose.People who drive around with their car windows open are exposed to thousands times more asbestos particles from brake dust than from any floortile. This clearly is a case of uneducated parents, administrators afraid to tell the parents they are acting like idiots and a disgruntled employee who needs to be re-assigned to the high school locker room area. This janitor needs to be taking behind the school and have the stuffing kicked out of him....in fact he needs some asbestos stuffed up his backside.
Let's put your kid in that school and then we'll see how you truly feel. Do a little better with your research. None of your facts are accurate.

Laws are put into place as a protection for the citizens instructed to obey them. The district had no right taking it upon themselves to do an abatement in classroom #10. Although their is a small risk that those children and their teachers will develop lung cancer or any of the other awful diseases associated with asbestos, the district had no right to break the law! Why don't you understand people ANY risk is too much. They didn't have the right to put the children and teachers at risk!
