The $18.5 million budget for Regional School Unit 16 was approved at Tuesday's referendum by a vote of 370-312. Mechanic Falls and Minot voters turned it down.

The town is moving forward with a plan to build a new waste water treatment plant to serve businesses and residents of Oxford.

The Town Council and Budget Committee voted Wednesday to recommend a $2.4 million budget for the fiscal year that starts July 1. Town Manager John Hawley said the budget, approved with no dissenting voices, calls for raising $1,303,776 from local property taxes.

Fire departments from at least seven communities pulled together late Tuesday night and early Wednesday to battle two fires on both sides of the river.
