Mastic Beach makes it easier to renovate residences
Mastic Beach homeowners will no longer have to go before the village planning board for permission to renovate their residences, some of which were damaged in superstorm Sandy. The village trustee board, in a 5-0 Tuesday night decision, voted to streamline the process for revamping single-family homes, which had included meeting with the planning board for site development plans.

Police: 3 Hurt, 1 Seriously in Eastport Crash
A Mastic Beach man was seriously hurt and two others suffered minor injuries in a crash in Eastport Saturday night, police said. According to police, Arnold Furcal was driving a 2002 Ford Expedition west on Sunrise Highway when his vehicle left the road, struck two guardrails and crossed into the eastbound lanes, west of County Route 51, at 8:10 p.m. The SUV then collided with a 2005 Honda CRV, police said.

Suffolk County Police today arrested a man for discharging a weapon outside a parking lot in August. According to the report, a man discharged his weapon from a vehicle in the parking lot of 16 Middle Country Road, Coram, on August 22 at approximately 6:30 p.m. There were numerous people in the area, but no one was injured.
