Utilities kill plans for Big Stone II power plant

Full story: TwinCities.com

Developers of the controversial Big Stone II power plant in Milbank, S.D., said Monday they will not build the $1.6 billion coal-fired project, ending a four-year battle between utilities and environmentalists over a significant portion of Minnesota 's energy future.

While I typed this I was polluting the world by breathing. Carbon is harmless. When will these eco-religious nuts admit it. Thousands of potential jobs around the country abandoned because of the cap and tax scam.

They don't even need the actual scam of cap n tax to kill jobs, just the mere threat of enacting it. These freaks won't be satisfied until central heating means going to the town square and warming by a bonfire of books.

I think it will be a bonfire of all remaining copies of the Constitution. Then they can write one to fit their needs.

"They were trying to build a coal-fired power plant in the teeth of a carbon-restrained world, and that was too costly and too risky," said Michael Noble, executive director of Fresh Energy, an environmental group in St. Paul. "What this (decision) should tell you more than anything is that the era of coal-fired power plants is over."

An honest follow-up by Mr. Fresh Energy

"It is Fresh Energy's desire to increase the use of the highest cost sources of energy to MN consumers. We hope for a 40% increase in the average electric bill because it would indicate more use of expensive wind power and increased use of another scarce resource, natural gas. The combined effect will only be about $600/year on the average home and we think that's worth it."

If only we had that candor.

UN Climate Chief: Deal Must be Legally Enforceable

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091102/ap_on_re_...

BARCELONA, Spain – Developing countries don't trust wealthy nations' promises that they will help them meet the challenges of climate change, the U.N.'s top climate official said Monday, adding that means any new global warming deal must have legal force.

The legal status of an agreement and whether nations will be sanctioned for failing to meet their commitments are contentious issues in talks on controlling the world's emissions of carbon and other heat-raising greenhouse gases.

"We live in a world of broken promises," said Yvo de Boer, the U.N. climate chief, told The Associated Press. Developing countries are concerned "they will commit to targets and not deliver."

Like the same legal enforcement that worked against Saddam Hussein? And now, Iran, Myanmar, Congo, Sudan and North Korea?

Oh wait. this time THOSE guys will be the "enforcers". No thanks...NOT WANTED!

Yea! That plant was going to be HORRIBLE for multiple reasons. We should be giving jobs to those who are working on clean energy- coal is outdated and gives lung cancer!

So the actual reason for the power line building is revealed, not wind power as was touted by the Propaganda Press, but Big Stone II, to ship power out east to the
Scanis and Chi-town. Wind power expansion is also stopped pretty much at this time.

Thanks too-big FAIL banks and your greedy vampire squid management wrapped around the face of the US economy relentlessly poking its blood sucking funnel into anything that smells of money.

Mr Nobles,

In your fantasy world how are electric cars, computers and products that are manufactured by machines going to get power? Solar and wind only go so far. Oh, electricity must be magic!

Actually, his candor is lacking. It's not 40%. His view of our energy future will lead to at least a tripling of electricity prices. Doubt this? Denmark has already achieved what current MN statute requires, and their power costs are already triple ours.

Why would we send power to Chicago? Prices are LOWER there than here.

Don't forget that 111,000,000 US house holds x $600 =$66,600,000,000 per year in higher energy costs.

P.S. Not to mention fewer US jobs and more expensive US products. Higher energy costs is all around crazy even if it is for green energy.

It didn't take long for the renewable energy chickens to come home to roost on the
city of Anoka. After Anoka and 11 other cities agreed to shell out $3.6 million
to participate in a feel good wind energy project.

Anoka is currently in the process of erecting a monstrous eyesore windmill that
will replace a grand total of - are you ready for this?- 1% of the city's power!
Yes, a total of 1%! Enough wind energy will be produced to power the TVs and microwaves
of about 40 homes in the city. At that rate, the city would have been better off
to put a bunch hamsters on treadmills to power the city.

Now that the refurbished turbine is being installed, some members of the city council
are feeling a bit upset

http://abcnewspapers.com/index.php...

because the windmill isn't apparently shiny enough. Because the windmill is used,
it is worn and rusty, much to the consternation of the city fathers who must have
thought they were buying the tricked-out, chrome-on-chrome turbine like the kind
you see on the popular cable show "Pimp my Windmill."

Councilmember Mark Freeburg summed up the city's feelings when he deadpanned, "I
feel like we got hosed." That may be true, but the taxpayers go hosed when you
voted to fund this foolishness, Mr. Freeburg.

I am shocked!

Owl Gore misquotes his own cited reference.

$300K for the turbine in question.

And at $0.12 per kw hr X 24 X 7 X 365 we get a payback in 2 years or so. Even if you de-rate it for efficiency its' not the black hole Owl would have you believe.

Don't forget Owl is an Al Queda operative planted in the US to insure the continued dependence of the US on Middle East oil.

at .12 per kwh energy costs are tripled by the windmill. And we still need a coal back up.

The efficiency stinks and the costs are tripled.

It was your math and your finacial assessment that made you looked silly-
