The Allegheny Valley Land Trust is joining with the borough to apply for a state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grant that would help with an estimated $41,000 project to complete the Ford City Trail part of the Armstrong Trail.

A 21-year-old North Buffalo man, arrested in June in connection with an attempted North Buffalo burglary, was sentenced Tuesday on two counts of receiving stolen property and one count of criminal trespass.

State police said Georgia Carol Cornman, 66, of 178 Armstrong Lane, was driving north on Route 66 when she attempted to turn left onto Route 128 into Ford City at the Riverside intersection and her 1996 Jeep Cherokee was struck by a 2005 International tri-axle coal truck traveling south.

Armstrong County Jail officials say staff could not have done anything more to prevent the recent suicide of an inmate at the county's lockup in Rayburn earlier this month.

A 21-year-old man who police said swam across the Allegheny River to escape after a botched home burglary in June tried to kill himself in his jail cell on Saturday, according to state police.
