Sand Dune Park's dune likely to stay closed through end of year

Full story: The Daily Breeze

By the time Tiffany Taylor heard about the vigorous workout available at Manhattan Beach's Sand Dune Park, the 100-foot dune had already long been fenced off.

Aren't there bigger world problems? Who cares, keep it closed. Both sides of this issue are nothing but whiners. Nobody has a constructive solution. It's not like this problem popped up over night. Do I? No, but I along with the rest of civilization have bigger issues in our lives to deal with. Now Manhattan Beach can lay claim to the worlds largest kitty litter box.

It's against city code to run up and down those stairs. It's posted clearly.

If the city only enforced its own ordinances much of the problems with Sand Dune Park would go away.

Great, tell city council no rush for solution sit on it for a couple of years like they do on just about every other issue. Take the money on upkeep and use it Mira Costa, the place is a dump and falling apart. What is more important a bunch of wannabee athletes or education. All those crying about the park go to a library and read a book and improve your mind.

The "public" dune is to be enjoyed by all. Nick Tell wouldn't understand because he lives in a McMansion way over in the southside hill section. And to Tiffany Taylor, exercise on the stairs is strictly prohibited! Read the signs and then take your son back to Inglewood to work out there. Enforcement of the park rules needs to be stepped up. So there you have it, just the facts ma'am.

This is preposterous on so many levels. I live in the neighborhood, and while usage increased this summer, the complaints have grown far beyond what is justified. I have used the park for 7 years, and closing it now for the 4 months is a counterproductive and a ridiculous overreaction. First of all, usage falls in the autumn every year, so keeping it closed in these months will do nothing to address the summer issues. Instead of keeping the park open, which is what the vast majority of Manhattan Beach residents would prefer, the city council has been bullied by a vocal minority that think they are a special breed of people, unwilling to share their public parks with their neighbors.

This is beyond the pale.

Go to the Esplanade in Redondo. There's parking and both ramps and stairs to run up and down.

Or - imagine this - just RUN ALONG THE SURFLINE!!

Idiots locked in their routines....

Miles and miles of beaches and these people complain about ONE LOCATION not being available.

Somebody forgot to tell Tiffany Taylor that this is a "NO NIMBY" issue. Does she really think that she and her kid or any other Inglewood resident are welcome in the South Bay. This area is historically racist. To deny that fact is dillusional. Google 'spook hunters' if you dont believe me..........

Funny unacknowledged posting, MBer. I'd join you, but it takes me until about 8:15 to reach the streets around Sand Dune Park during the MB10K. As for the others, I hope their whistles synchronize with the neighborhood rock bands.

Yes, I'm probably closer to 8:10 myself.

Shows how much some of these posters know MB.

Good Luck!

This is a sign of the times we live in. The residents should just be honest about it, and erect a sign that says, "WHITE RESIDENTS ONLY"!..... Sadly, that's where we are as a nation.

Please attend upcoming meetings, especially city council meetings that occur on thursdays, but first meeting is the Parks and Recreation his monday at 6:30pm. Bodies count, respectful opinions count - especially from local residents.
Also, in about five days, a new website will be launched, www.sanddunepark.com that will advocate for measures to address legitimate concerns to reduce usage, but keep it open to the public.
