Thank you. You have just raised everyones grocery bill now.
How? If you bring your own bag? Maybe the stores can be like Ikea and charge a nickle a bag or you can always shop in Hawthorne. |
What about Hefty bags used for garbage? If grocery bags are NG, why aren't plastic gargage bags?

Torrance rules.
Shop in Torrance. Live in Torrance. Smoke in Torrance. Smoke in Torrance. |

The ban may be symbolic, but in reality is going to do little to reduce plastic trash bag litter in the city. I bet that 80% of the plastic bags that end up in the streets and on the beach come from sources outside the city and dropped by careless non-residents. Until the bag ban is comprehensive across all of Southern California there will be plastic bag litter in all of the beach cities.

How interesting for the Manhattan Beach city council to vote on this. Its very ironic when this city has these huge mansions that use up more than the average of electricity and other utilities. Its all symbolic to make them feel good. Funny thing, the council is talking about plastic bags and their cops are chasing robbers. Perception world.

Curious. Paper bags were to be phased out by these plastic bags in order to save trees from which the paper bags were made. This was done, supposedly, to save the environment. Now, these plastic bags are considered harmful to the environment and the trees that these bags were supposed to save are being burned up by forest fires in the California mountains because logging was banned.
Just what other "bright" ideas do you Lefty Environmentalists intend to inflict upon the consumer, and yes, the "environment"? The unintended consequences of your "Green" legislations (MTBE) have proved to be more injurious to the environment then if you all had left well enough alone. Shame on you, Sierra Club and the like!(spit!) |

Well said. |

This is the same mentality that has created the current oil crisis!!! These people are Natzis....why is it that all the liberals who scream for freedom, always, ALWAYS, are the first to take away any sort of choice we have as human beings!!! First it was oil drilling of any kind, then smoking at the beach, outside, now plastic bags? Manhattan Beach should be more worried about all the criminals coming to their town to commit crimes.....what a joke!!!!! What a bunch of whimps!!!!

True, but change has to start somewhere. |
Lou, go back to school, you're an idiot. If anything, this should decrease our grocery bills if people start using their own disposable bags. |
Sorry, meant to say "non-disposable". |
What is it all these people whining? Yes, banning plastic bags won't solve every problem in the world, but just like everything else, we have to start somewhere. Change doesn't occur overnight and instantly. It's just a step towards awareness and to get people to use their own non-disposable bags.
What's the big deal? Stop all your whining! It's not like they banned food or other important things. How hard is it to bring your own damn bags?! Any time someone tries to do something good, there's always some cry babies out there whining and complaining about how they will be affected. "Oh no! Will I have to carry my groceries by hand all the way to my 9 mpg Chevy Suburban?! What has this world come to! It's all these environmental Nazis fault! How will I support my family when grocery bills will increase by 0.03% on my $150k salary?!" Gimme a break.... |

Great now I have to look like some soccer mom fashionista while going grocery shopping. I'm sure we'll all look very chick with our new bags to match our three thousand dollar Paris Hilton Wannabe dogs. This is just another sign of the way this town is going. First it was the beach store, then it was one stop or Seven eleven depending on how long you've been a resident, and then Mac's. Manhattan Beach is continuing to morph into Beverly Hills by the sea, Erasing its heritage as a pretty little beach town. Soon enough all types of fun will be banned because its too dangerous and too unhealthy, and then fossil fuel burning cars will be banned within the city and we'll all be driving tricked out golf carts!

Which law firm pals of the City Council will get the job and the fees for defending these actions? Manhattan Beach has too much taxpayer money. Money for consultants and lawyers seems like a better idea for the current council than providing services or helping the schools.
We can all vote NO on bonds and additional asessments knowing any money will be wasted. |

Guess I'll have to import my plastic bags from Hermosa
great ..now I will have to buy plastic bags to clean the cat litter box and to pick up my dogs poop.....what excatly is the point here ? Since dog and cat waste is bio degradable, I guess I can just through it in the street or leave it there ? Clearly cleaner than using plastic bags to pick it up !
Use compostable plastic. http://www.biobagusa.com/ http://www.biobagusa.com/biobag_dog.htm |
No more shopping in MB. I'll just take my business to HB, RB or Torrance.
