Council vote means thousands of jobs

Yippeee!! I am so thankful to God and all the people in our county and city that have worked so hard for this. This is quite a coup.

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!

Now we need a wet county and the wine to throw a proper celebration!!!!

Mayor Lewis,

Please make public your enviornmental hazardous waste expert studies that are required by federal law to be completed before hazardous waste plants can be licensed? Were these studies in fact completed? Who were the experts? Also, your application to the EPA must be made public. This is a requirement of federal law. There must be a public discussion period prior to its approval per federal law. Would you be so kind as to provide a link to your application to the EPA? As you know, the Republicans no longer control the EPA and the current EPA bosses are not going to turn a blind eye to these issues.

As a party with an interest in such an application in that a hazardous plant might damage our proposed CC vineyards and winery we would like to participate and have some answers.

Also, the timing is very interesting. Just as the CC wet petition grows the anti-progreesive elements in CC announce a development project and then John says 'go home we don't need you any more." Hum??? Smells like a fish??

In any case, such businesses are capable of existing simultaneously. They are not a one or the other choice.

Nice try! Waste Conversion Plants do not hire 1400 workers!!! I wonder if she is counting garbage men? Indirect knock-on employment? Also, a Waste Conversion Plant is all about Hazardous Materials. This is a hyped number. But yes the Mayor should be looking for new businesses.

However, in the case of our vineyards and winery plus a wet county, every single CC citizen has a chance to grow wine grapes for the project. Heck!!! Some might even work in the Hazardous Plant, I mean Waste Conversion Plant by day, and grow wine grapes on the side..

We are on our way to CC wether she likes it or not! And the yes wet vote is climbing!!

Forgot to mention, you do know that with Hazardous Materials, I mean Waste Conversion Pants, come a much higher risk of cancer, birth defects and related illnesses. West VA has had a similar experience. One could search the net for such Hazardous Materials plants around the planet and cross check their health issues. Some folks really need some enviornmental, health and scientific experts as in most other places before dealing in Hazardous waste!

It is one thing to be in need of industry and yet another to be willing to take any and all industries. Wet county, vineyards and wineries do not bring health issues just dollars, tourist and good wine!!!

We will make sure our vineyards and winery are located far away from this hazardous waste project!!

she doesn't even get on topix, she has heard of it, but doesn't visit this site, trust me, I don't think she has ever visited topix at anytime. so if you want to get a hold of carmen call the city hall at six zero six five nine eight eight four one one that is dispatch number, they should get you connected with her. I know carmen personally that is how I know she doesn't get on topix. Good Luck with the Winery, I hope you succeed.

to add to it. Carmen is a very nice lady who wants all Clay Countians to prosper don't believe everything you read about her on here. First she is a mother than she is an advocate for Clay Countians. I know Carmen, she is a relative, I know her intentions. A lot of people are jealous of her and upset because of the former mayor, who did nothing but keep us in the dark for decades. So talk to Carmen personaly before you judge her. She is willing to go with anything that will prosper and make this town, a town to be proud of.

Thanks for taking the time to relay Mayor Carmen Lewis' position. Since you are her kin, would you be so kind to pass along our sincerest gratitude for her continued support and admiration for (1) the wet county petition in CC,(2) the commercial vineyard and winery and (3)the wine grape grower's coop? Furthermore, in this vein we are further pleased that she will take some time and make sure her public endorsement of this project AND WET COUNTY PETITION is well documented in the local newspapers, the local radio stations and of course the internet. A few telephone calls to these entities by you and or her would do the trick.
In due course and if our presence is needed we will travel to Manchester and participate in rallies and public forums i.e. speeches, media events etc.. in rallying the voters to support this project and petition. If this comes to pass please relay to the Mayor in advance that we will greatly appreciate her presence at such events and fully appreciate her additional and continued public endorsements at that time.
After all, we are both working for a better CC, SE KY and KY generally!

In regards to your other posts, we are fully aware of the tittle tattle non-sense on Topix. However, we are also fully aware that many folks, ourselves included, still believe that a free public forum is an excellent avenue for public discussion and debate. Just think, this wasn't possible a mere 15 years past!

For the sake of good neighborly relations and public discussion there is one nagging question about this project???

We called the DC government today and asked about the city trash department. We have almost 700,000 citizens by night and more than 1.2 million folks by day. The DC land area is 68 square miles. Hundreds of office buildings produce massive quantities of trash. The Pentagon is the biggest office building in the country.

Yet we do not hire anywhere near 1400 waste employees and we have many dozens of dump trucks with 3 man crews 5 days per week????

so, how in the world can a CC waste business which sounds like a processing plant employ 1400 people? How was this number calculated???

I mean with vineyards and wineries it is easy. anybody with land who wants to grow has got a job?

Not being difficult here, just engaging in public discussion??

i so have to ask with what i have read thus far. do you think the trash venture is being exaggerated? what are your thoughts on the paperwork not being shown dealing with epa and hazardous material studies being available for public viewing?

1) There is a very high chance with the known public knowledge that the trash plant employee numbers are greatly exaggerated.

Hazardous chemicals disposed separately. Even in China with cheap labor, 1400 employees do not work in such plants.

At this point and as a concerned citizen and future business owner in an industry that can easily employ 1400 growers in a coop, I would simply like to see more questions and answers plus material relating to the project.

Why are you so disturbed over Waste Not locating in this area? You really look like you are trying to knock it because it made it and you haven't, WHY are you knocking it down? Any jobs is better than no jobs right? Even if it doesn't provide 1400 and instead created 140 jobs, that is 140 jobs that we didn't have right? You will say because the state funded portions, well isn't it about time state done something, if the money wasn't brought in here, it would have been wasted in big cities, right? I don't understand why you are so against this wonderful company, I say wonderful because it is indeed going to provide JOBS! It makes your motives look fishy when you are trying to knock another company because it came in the area ahead of you.

There will be no Hazardous waste. They do not accept anything like that, so it will be of no concern to the winery. Good luck with your winery, would like to have a jug at this moment. I am working on the petition too. If we can't grow grapes, at least we will ne able buy a beer or some california wine......

Thank you sooo much!!! Your petition work is much appreciated. We are looking forward to the day when we can invite all of our supporters especially the petition signature gathers to the winery for a much deserved feast and a jug of wine!!

Yes you are right. This project must be taken one step at a time. The first step is the petition. Once CC is wet many benefits start to flow as you rightly point out. Many businesses in CC will be able to sell beer, wine, alcohol etc and this creates jobs, profits and tax dollars.

After the vote the next step is to close the land deal and so on...

Are they gonna put this waste station near the Super Wal-Mart? LOL! Or are they gonna put it in the Garrad area with the permission of "dry hole" himself? If you ask me, the entire county is a hazardous waste project with everyone being a top notch employee.

You would think that all these drug busts and confiscation of drug owner property that the city would actually doing something good with it. It takes money to make money and I'm sure many of those honorable city member know this. Nothing will ever change with Manchester. Not now, not ever. The primary problem is that that the majority of the county residents are lazy and expect to live off the government. They want the easy life, such as selling drugs, getting that disability (when they're really not disabled), getting a crazy check and all those other handouts that I pay for because I work everyday and pay taxes. I don't think you should get sh*t if you haven't ever payed any taxes. Get off your lazy a** and go back to school or get you GED. I can say this, I have friends and family on the "I don't wanna work program"!
