State opens 100 beds to ease jailsa backlog

The Arkansas Department of Correction has opened the first 100 beds of a 783-bed addition to a prison in Malvern, a move that will make a small dent in the backup of inmates waiting in county jails for space in state prisons to open up, a department spokesman said Tuesday.
