all this killing and the violence that is happening here in columbia county is so senseless. i get so frustrated hearing about these teens killing one another, i am so afraid for our other young teens that are being introduced to these gangs, my boys tell me that at jr. high they are asked to join these gangs, what are we as parents to do?

we recently had a march against violence, a rally against violence and noone in Higher Authority seem to want to help, i went to the mayor to ask him to come and speak at the rally, but he said he had another engagement... i then asked if he could give a donation to help feed the children and he gave us water, in which that did help, but i thought to myself that we are out here fighting to take our streets back, and thats the appreciation that we get. i had to call him numerous of times, in which he never returned my calls back, so a friend went to his office and asked him to please call me. i dont know what else to do, to help the community and help save our children, the police dept. we there patroling, in which i requsted, the chief of police was rather cooperative, and generous. i really want tyo get a motivational speaker that will get these children and the community attention, we got to get save our children from these gangs and the violence that is corrupting our town1

Again, you people are looking at the wrong place. Look for city hall, the mayor, the schools, the police, etc to handle your problems, and you'll just get more welfare babies and crackheads.

You people need to be looking at your own homes to solve your problems. Quit putting an emphasis "what you can get" from the govt and start focusing on what you can contribute to society.

i did look to the mayor, police etc. and i got nothing, did you not understand what i am saying,i am looking at my own home and doing all i can to solve these problems... there is so much that one can do espically if you dont have back-up. anyway i am not asking anything from the govt. except to help save these children,by the way do you have children? if you do then maybe you can understand where i am coming from, as i said before i organized a march and a rally against violence, iam doing what i think will help our community, and has not asked the govt. for anything

How would you suggest they help save the children? Would you like to have a policeman on every block? Where this young man was killed certainly wasn't a main thoroughfare, so why would a cop be anywhere close to stop it? Again, what's the mayor supposed to do to stop violence? All government can do is investigate and prosecute the perpetrators. Holding anyone responsible for violence other than the kids and their families is asinine.

the purpose of the municipal governments is to provide for security, create economic opportunties, provide essential services ie water electricity sewer streets. If government let crime run wild then the government isnt doing a good job because government is suppose to provide security and stability. instability, no one wants

OK, again I ask. What do you want them to do?

You said you wanted some "back-up"? How? What do you want from the local government? You are whining about the mayor and the police. What did the mayor do other than not attend your rally? You were rather complimentary of the police. What would you like them to do for "back-up"?

In another post, you wanted the "higher-ups" to help save the children. Again, tell me what you want them to do?

Sounds to me like sour grapes because some "higher-ups" didn't go to a march.

Not all the problems can be solved by the city government, some must be solved by the individuals. But certainly government can help reduce crime. Why would they be elected if they can't protect the citizens it is suppose to protect. Government can pool resources together to fight this problem because its not just a southside or westside issue. It is a city wide issue. This problem gets too far out of hand people will move, no companies will want to come, quality of life will fall even farther, poverty will still increase, and drugs and crime will continue to rise. See what it's in the city governments best interest to wage war against crime?

i am not the one to judge but it seems to me that you have some issues ,..all i am trying to do is to get the community to come together and voice their ideas and i am not whining about the mayor, or the police because like i said before the police were there at the march and the rally, i am concerned when our childre black and whites are being introduced to gangs, we still have faith and hope, its alkso terrible when elder people are afraid to come out of their homes because of the violence in their neighorhoods, thats all i am speaking of!

OK, was that too hard?

What are some of your ideas as to how we should address this problem?
