Letter: Same-sex protest isn't about religion

Recently I wrote a letter about the court overturning the vote by the people to disallow same-sex marriage, letting the minority rule instead of the majority in California.

I guess our school system has failed as I still am surprised that people have no clue as to how our system of government works. Our founding fathers knew that a pure democracy is simply "mob rule". It was this kind of persecution that the early settlers were fleeing from.

Our government is a constitutional republic which guarantees basic freedoms that cannot be taken away by the "majority". If everything were left to the majority, civil right, especially in the south, would have taken decades longer, if at all.

Please open a high school government textbook and learn a little bit before making such uninformed remarks.

The main point of how our govrnment is set up is to protect the minority from the majority as long as the monority doesnt adversly affect the majority. This is how it should be.

Really if people want to make marriage a religious issue then the government should ignore all marriages (to seperate church and state) and put a whole diffreent system into place let the religious people have their marriages but they dont get current benefits just a MARRIAGE IN NAME ONLY. benefit and tax breaks should come from filing a domestic partnership for everyone. see how fast their tone changes

Of course its about religion. We are talking about state recognition of a domestic partnership.
We are talking about contract law between consenting adults, and the "one man/one woman" proscription is a religious concept that has no place in public law. Groupings of religious people have an absolute right to organize their ceremonies however they want, with whatever limitations they see fit, but they emphatically do not have the right to impose their private standards on people who do not subscribe to their sect.To have state sponsored contract law affecting individuals, law that has material costs and consequences for those who are excluded from its use, based onreligious grounds, does a violent and flagrantly unconstitutional injustice on those who do not subscribe to that religeon.

Our school system has NOT failed. It has done the perfect job of indoctrinating Ms. Deniz while removing her ability to think.

Maybe instead of "religious crackpot" she self-identifies more closely with "dittohead." In either case, Astute has it right, the end result is a brain-dead sycophant.

What a bigot. If only you had been there that day in high school civics when they covered minority rights to be protected from the "majority".

Jail Mates.
Has anyone considered the consequences of this activist judge's ruling on the prison system? How much MORE is it going to cost the taxpayers when the prisoners start getting married, to one another? I'll bet the judges will allow them to share the same cells, or even require that they be provided separate private rooms. Well npow when these goof ups who waste resources for our children's future brag about their time in the big house, we can just call their yap "gay".

The Wrath of God?
Call me what you will, I am not a Bible thumper,(though I respect those who are), but maybe that brief lightening storm last week was vengeance. It was very quick, came out of nowhere, and now California burns.

Hey, how do you really know? Is your elitist attitude give you supreme knowledge? Anyone who thinks they know, is a fool and a liar.
Man him/herself does not and cannot know who really created us, or how we were created.

It should NEVER be necessary to change the Constitution? So does this mean you disagree with all 27 of the amendments? Things change with time and so do laws. Less than 100 years ago women weren't allowed to vote. If it weren't for those changes in the Constitution that you say are unnecessary, that would still be the case.

Go to Conservapedia to decode "Republican" abusage of language, new language best called "'mer'kin."
"Think" means "react without mental activity" and "indoctrinate" means being presented with facts and the best current theories of what they mean.

"Astute Voter" (HAH-ha![slaps knee]), WHY do you hate us? For our freedoms?

Indeed! The faux-god that Xians pretend to worship has no redeeming features, and their Jesus seems to have nothing in common with how they live their lives.
How I wish they were all simply hypocrites!

What is wrong about "being religious"? After it's what happens afterward that matters in the long run. For those who try to justify homosexuality through a Biblical perspective, obvously haven't read the whole thing. Its God's ideas, not ours.

Gay marriage isnt a right. Sexual perversion isn't a right. This will be challenged all the way to the supreme court. After that, if the supreme court decides it's a right, then yes...it is a right

The real problem folks, is that the Amendment is actually a "revision" to the Constitution of California and thus requires either the recommendation of a Constitutional Convention or the 2/3's vote of the State Senate AND the State Asembly before going to a vote of the people. I am very afraid the CA Supreme Court will take the Amendment off the ballot before or AFTER we vote on it.

Do you remember THAT in your high school civics classes?

You know God, the CA Supreme Court surprised me when they equated sexual orientation with race and sex and religion for legal protection. I wasn't sure we gays and lesbians needn't it. Then I came here and started reading comments like yours. Now I am convinced the Court is 100% correct in its ruling. We LGBT folks need all the protection we can get. Thanks for proving the CA Supreme Court so wise and 100% correct in its marriage ruling, God!

Next uip, marriage between groups of people, maybe animals. too. They have rights tro, right? And maybe pedifiles have rights and there should not be laws against that act either. See what a vile can of worms have been opened here?
For you confused lost souls, very simple. Man has the tool, women have the feeders, it is all for a purpose, by the creator, whomever that may be or how you perceive it.
Your self rightous activist hateful people who insist on changing the laws of nature are wrong and your twisted behaviors are disgusting.
No wonder people are truning to Sri lanka laws.
