In a surprising decision to local officials, several attractions in the Tri-Cities will not be transferred to the Kentucky Department of Parks.

Andrew Lynch got a rude introduction to the University of Kentucky in 2004 when he failed his first exam -- in calculus.
'I went to the professor and said, 'I don't want to drop out,'' Lynch recalled Sunday. 'He said, 'It's not my problem. It's your problem. You failed the test. Why are you coming to me?''
The course was notorious for a high number of failures. So, Lynch, the valedictorian at Whitley County High School only three months earlier, called on his budding sense of 'self-reliance,' boned up for the next exam and scored 115 out of 100.
