Luxora Water

Luxora Water filtration and Boil Alert, all citizens please take note: Although our mayor has not issued a boil notice, you need to buy or boil the water you drink or cook with. As you know, our water system is being worked on. It is/was in bad shape. We are very fortunate to have been given a grant to repair our water system. Our water is coming straight out of the ground right now. We have 3 sand and rock filters that our water goes through to get the rust out. One of those filters had holes all in it. That's the reason for the sand in some citizens water. That filter is being fixed. Some of our city employees will tell you that they are back washing the filters, which is not true. The only way for the filters to be back washed is if our water tank was usable, and its not. Our water tank was in bad shape also. The ladder that one climbed to go down inside was all rusted out. The workers couldn't get down inside to work on the tank. Right now the engineers are waiting for the supplies to rebuild another latter. When the ladder is restored, the inside of the tank will be sand blasted clean. Then a protected lining and coating will be applied. This will last as long as the tank does. Northeast Arkansas has a high concentration of iron in our water. The standard treatment for removing the iron is to run it through an aerator to make the iron rust. Then run it through our 3 sand and rock filters to remove the rust. As I've said, one filter was busted, and our aerator doesn't work. Once our water system is repaired, our water will be better than it ever has been. I for one will be so happy not to have rust stain my white clothes. We have to be patient though, because maintenance will be going on until maybe March or April. So in the meantime, don't drink or cook with our water. Its coming straight out of the ground and is contaminated. We citizens should have been warned about this already. Plans are being made to do this as I write this by our councilman. I personally discussed all this with the engineer over the work being done. He faxed me a letter with all this info in it. I gave City Hall a copy. If you want a copy of the letter, its free to anyone that wants it. City Hall will give you a copy. Be safe and buy or boil your water. "credit to Stella"
