Rash of bike thefts reported in Ludowici

A bicycle thief or thieves hit Ludowici last week, allegedly stealing four bicycles within six days. Ludowici Police Department Chief Robert Poppell said that on Aug. 29 it was reported that a blue adult Mongoose bicycle with black lettering was stolen from a residence on Thorton Street and a purple Schwinn was stolen from a residence on Way Street.

Coastal communities get state block grants

According to an Aug. 19 news release from Gov. Nathan Deal's office, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded $39.7 million for Georgia's Community Development Block Grant that was awarded to 82 rural Georgia communities through the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. The release said the funds are intended to assist rural communities with infrastructure improvements, neighborhood revitalization and centers that serve the state's "neediest citizens."

Flooding advisory issued

The National Weather Service is warning of the possibility of minor flooding in west Liberty and Long counties this afternoon until about 5 p.m. The advisory was issued about 2:30, when a line of thunderstorms was spotted from north of Fort Stewart down to Ludowici.
