Which is more humane?

Full story: DispatchPolitics

In 1999, inmates could choose death on the then-new lethal-injection bed or in the electric chair inside the death house at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville.

This is all just a political move on Stricklands part. How can this b cruel and unusual punishment when compared to what they did. I'll tell you what, lets just put them in front of a firing squad and get it over with nice and quick!

Im sure the state can find a doctor or nurse who is able to find an appropriate vein. Im sick of feeding these people. We have enough problems in our society much less having to tend to these misfits to society. I don't think anyone is crying over this. They should have a back up procedure in case this is the problem. Old sparky could be the answer. Im sick of paying taxes to feed and house these criminals.

I like how some that are against the death penalty use the constitution to defend their stance. If the writers of the constitution found the death penalty to be unconstitutional, why did they allow it to happen after they signed it ? It's like the liberal court's Miranda decision, many were arrested while the founding fathers were still alive and I can't recall Madison or other signers stepping in after an arrest and claim it to be unconstitutional unless the perp was read his rights by the arresting officer.

Who would have thought that big grow males who committed these horrible crimes now may live? I wonder why these monsters who seemed to be so big and bad while killing these defenseless girls are even being given the right to die humanely or perhaps to live at all. Too much time and money has already been wasted on these pieces of garbage in my opinion. Strickland should be ashamed of himself the same as these criminals should be. Strickland will not be getting my vote! What candy arses they all are. Strickland should be using his head and sell tickets to these executions to make up for all the money the state of Ohio is short in these economic times. Bet those millions the state is short now would go away with ticket sells. I would be the first to buy a front row seat for these executions. Tell me which ticket master to use to get a front row ticket.

Why would anybody question if it is HUMANE??? Look what they did to get to the point of where they are. They murdered someone, they should have the same!!! Or, make them suffer the way they did their victim!!!

Once again the Dispatch doesn't tell the whole truth. The Reynolds execution was actually delayed by the United States Sixth District Court of Appeals. This will allow the Federal District Court time to hear the facts related to the Brooms case regarding his 8th Amendment issue. Nobody is saying these folks won't be executed, they have just been delayed to allow the courts time to examine a change in policy made by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction back in May 2009 in response to other botched executions.

Killing someone doesn't bring the murder victims back. The state has no right to take the life of anyone - regardless of what that person has done.

The money spent on taking care of these monsters could be used to help poor children in our state who've done nothing wrong. Shoot them or something already.

Agreed.
I was happy to see the headline 'question' in bold type, then immediately disappointed that this article doesn't even mention the viability of a disciplined, well- trained firing squad, even if it's to explain why it would be ruled out.

so 'Gas', or Old Sparky, should be the only other alternatives, period? End of discussion?

I guess any suggestion that there could possibly be a rational, practical use for firearms, is too volatile an issue for the front page, Dispatch?

We have lost sight of the pain and suffering of the victim. We should subject these animals to no worse than that which they are convicted of doing. As long as we do not subject someone to form of execution that is worse than that in which THEY PERFORMED ON SOMEBODY ELSE, I can sleep fine. We are not talking about Sunday School teachers that have jaywalked. These animals are cold blooded killers. Explain the compassion that they had in their hearts while imposing their death sentence on their victim. I share that same compassion for them.

You all are as animalistic as the convicted killers on death row. Your hunger to end their lives is no different than theirs was with their victims.

Their actions do not necessitate our acting in the same cruel and heartless manner. We CAN do this, and display a humane quality of sensitivity that they did not afford their victims. Having blood thirsty revengeful attitudes won't settle the score. Showing a little pity is not for their benefit, but for own sake -- as a just society. Nor does it mean that they deserve that kind of mercy.

Don't you people get it???

I bet these girls weren't blind as they were looking into the eyes of these monsters who beat, raped, strangled and who knows what else to them. Executing them won't bring them back but it will ensure that these scums will never hurt someone elses family. Not to mention all the tax dollars of ours that won't be going to house, feed and pay for their attorney. Those who have never lost someone to a terrible crime really don't know what this does to the family of the victim. These animals not only bring this on to themselves, but all sides of the families involved, including their own families. It isn't a fun ride to take for either side, but it is the way these disgusting creeps made it for all involved. Live with it, it's called justice!

You forget that doctors and nurses are prohibited by the Hippocratic oath to assist in any action such as this. EMT's should suffice easily, but it would get more complicated in the case of an obese inmate or one whose veins are destroyed by injections of whatever substance he recreationally used.

Personally, I think that the difficulties in finding a usable vein is very minor than compared to the victims suffering.

I would like to see perhaps five execution sites around the nation, with ten states sponsoring each. Each site would have the option of the needle, firing squad, hanging, gas chamber, the electric chair, or suicide. But, if you refuse to make a choice then the choice is made for you by a lottery, and you must accept the decision drawn.

What is "Cruel & Unusual" punishment should be determined by exactly how the victim was killed.
