A New Jersey company agreed Thursday to pay a small portion of the possible $300 million cost of cleaning up the abandoned asbestos mine on Belvidere Mountain in Eden and Lowell.

A press release from the U.S. Justice Department late Thursday said G-1, which owned the mine from 1967 to 1975, agreed to the following payments: Up to 8.6 percent of $300 million for cleanup costs at the mine.
