Why can't people learn to TAKE THE FRIGGING GPS SYSTEMS OUT OF THE CAR? That's just common sense, especially at night in Lowell. They almost deserve to have their crap stolen just for being stupid.

I tell you one thing, i ever see my car getting broken into , the person doing it better hope they get caught by the cops instead of by me. If it is my not only will they be spending time behind bars, they also be visiting the emergency room. I work to pay for items, not steal them.

I hope the law gives him a break. He is too young to have a criminal record that would follow him the rest of his life.

And that would be why so many kids keep doing the stupid stuff they do..."give them a break, their only kids"

Nope...They need to start cracking down on these kids. Your big enough to steal?? You are big enough for the consequences. Period.

Maybe if we start showing these kids that it is UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR they will stop doing it. The harder the punishment, the less they will do the crime. instead, we teach them that, because they are kids, they can get away with it so they don't "hurt their futures". They should have thought about their "future" before doing it.

I'm always amazed by people who leave their GPS's and cell phones and wallets and prescription drugs in their cars and then are all like "Oh my God! Someone broke into my car and stole my stuff!" Well duh. If you're going to do that you should just leave your car unlocked; that way at least you don't have a lot of glass to clean up in the morning.

If it was your car broken into and hundreds of dollars in damage, would you give him a break?? I'd like to break the little ba@#$%ds head and then slap the $#it out of his mother. Then we need to break into his home and steal what ever he has - teach him a lesson on how it feels.
What ever happened to "do on to other's as you'd have done to you"??
A friends car was broken into while at the Brewery about a month ago, besides taking the GPS the damage done to the car costs close to $1000. Why do so many people NOT care about others? What happened to our society?

I feel safe enough in Lowell to keep whatever I want in my car. And I don't bother to lock my doors most of the time, either. Only once has my car been broken into in 10 years. They took a pair of $10 shades, some CDs and unsuccessfully tried to jack my $80 stereo. I don't think it is stupid at all to leave your GPS in your car. Plenty of people do it all the time.

Especially...EVERYWHERE. Don't fool yourself in the suburbs into thinking that your stuff inside your car is any safer. Every month or two there is an article in the Sun reminding residents of Townsend, Dracut, Pelham, Pepperell, etc. to secure their possessions and lock their doors. It's foolish to think that your stuff can be left in plain sight in any town/city these days.

Are you kidding? Why don't you just hand over your paycheck to the kid? What right does he have to steal ANYTHING that I've worked hard for? Oh, sorry you stole from me, I hope they slap you on the wrist! Where do you think this stems from? Kids have it way too easy. I can only pray it follows this kid!

Okay, say you have kids. You are rushing to feed one crying baby, one child "has to pee." Oh crap, I left my GPS in the car. Come on! Are you saying it's okay to "smash my window" because I forgot, due to life issues and this twit should not have a record? Well, I disagree.

The law does "give a break" to youthful offenders. When they reach the age of seventeen, nearly all crimes they may have been convicted of in the past are permanantly sealed.

Just because people leave stuff in their car doesnt give people a right to steal it. Do you think if your home was broken into it would be your fault because you had stuff in their ? We need more citizens keeping an eye out and chasing down these lazy punks who would rather steal than work. Our laws need to be tougher on these crimes because they start off small get away with it and then they graduate to breaking in to homes and robbing stores.

I never said it was ok to steal someone else's stuff. All I said was don't be surprised when some punk kid or junkie steals your stuff because you left it in your car, for whatever reason. The world is full of a-holes looking for the easy way, and leaving expensive stuff in your car makes it easy for them. Also, I never said anything about records; that was someone else.

exactly my point. If they don't get punished properly for the small stuff, you can be GUARANTEED that the big stuff WILL follow.

I have a rat trap that I painted black that is set on my car floor...been there over a year.
Any kid caught breaking into a car should do 20 years in jail with 10 of it being on a chain gang.
Second offense after 20 years? The death penalty.
Change the laws to be two strikes and you are out.
I hate a thief. I would execute burglars for their first break in.
