NWC field school examines ancient architecture near Big Horn Canyon
The route from Lovell up through the Big Horn Canyon National Recreation Area (NRA) is bordered by rocks, sloping hills and canyons. The area is inhabited by wild horses and bighorn sheep, and a local (and not-so-local) research group is documenting evidence of Native American life on the rugged area near the Montana-Wyoming border.
The program got started in 2003 with just a few Northwest College students. The course was officially started in 2006, when archeologists from NWC and Indiana University teamed up for the research project and began bringing more and more students every year.
