Louisa says no to rehab program

Full story: Independent

When it comes to helping people recover from addiction, city officials in Louisa have decided to 'Just Say No.' After hearing the concerns of a crowd of city residents during a city council meeting last week, elected leaders voted to sign no agreements regarding an addiction-recovery program proposed by Community Fellowship, a church in downtown ...

I'm a teen and I know first hand that Louisa people have a Drug problem.!!! I'v seen famliy, friends and Pregnant ladys all addicted. Now days More people are even Homeless because at one point they had a drug related charge! AS a Caring community member I think this wouldn'v Helped ALOT of people and I can't stress enough how sad I am to know that People are not considering this a Perfect idea!!!

Actually, most citizens are for the Rehab. There are only a few who are voicing an opposing opinion. A Rehab is a wonderful idea.

Louisa needs something to help put these people started off on the right foot, looks like they can't do it themselves, so why not help, could change peoples lives, literally, but louisa doesn't care, just let them keep running free, then complain your asses off about it!!!!!!

The Independent isn't that independent after all, I know for a fact that they were offered a side of the story from the people who don't want it in town, and it was completely ignored.

We have already explained why we don't want it, and when I say we I mean the population of this town who is against it. I think we all have said enough, there is nothing none of us can do to stop it from opening, and really why should we, we'd be getting in the way of Tim and Rick of making some money.

I have written on the original thread why it is a bad idea, Tim and Rick don't keep their stories straight on the newspaper and the website (odysseycenters.com ), here's a hint for both Tim and Rick, when you tell the truth, you don't have to have a good memory. And that goes to say that initially it has been reported on the so called newspaper that this building would not initially house anyone, it would later on though, it is on their website that no one will be housed at all, who cares right.

But as I said before, it isn't illegal to scam the govern... I mean, it isn't illegal to open a drug rehab facility next to a school, so there is nothing us residents can do, but sit back and watch a church turned the community away from them make some mooola, because lets face it, who cares about the druggies right? We know Rick May and Tim Robinson don't.

Maybe I should become an ordain minister, open up my own church and charge the state for programs to help drunks and druggies, maybe we can all have a get together along with the drunks and druggies from the churchs program, share our stories by the fire with a shot of bourbon and a dubbie.

Hey maybe yuor ma,e should be clueless carrie. Thanks for grouping me with the people of Louisa that do seem to have a problem. I have lived here for most of my life as does my family, and i am proud to say that none of us have a drug problem. As a matter of fact, my friends dont have a "drug problem" either. But hey, thanks for stereotyping all of us.

The web site for the center stated the rehab was going to be in a church on Lackey, the people are voting No to the rehab becasue of the kids but what about the people who are going into the schools who are addicts and the people walking around in town. Maybe if you see the outcome of the people wanting help, at least there may be a positive outcome. But I guess it is easier to be in the dark about how many addicts are actually here. The ones in the rehab most of the time are wanting help, thats why they are there.

As a medical professional that is lucky enough to deal with addicts everyday, I have to strongly disagree with you about addicts in rehab want help. I dont know how much research you have done, but more often than not they are in rehab to dodge jail time. Most rehab centers actually see the same patients time and time again. If they have such a good sucess rate, why do they keep coming back. The truth is rehab centers have horrible success rates. The rate of relapse is incrediably high. Just wanted to let you know.

I think the people on here for a rehab cant get it threw their heads that everyone agrees a drug rehab is needed but there are several things to consider, the children ,our community, the money factor, operations of such a project someone has to be educated enough to know what they are doing or something terrible would happen. This is needed but not inside city limits and busing people in is a scary idea, who would you be bringing to town besides the drug addict, their friends and other addicts as well. I dont know of anyone sane that would want this in their back yards in front of their small kids. You should take note of the medical professional who make a comment if anyone sees this they do come on people wake up!!

Well, you see, I can't help from having bad attitude sometimes, it is a disease, it is not my fault, I just can't control it, it is called diarrhea of the mouth, shit just goes out everywhere, deep down I really do want help, and I am sure that I would do good in church, for a while, I just don't know what to do about this whole ordeal, and here I read what I wrote and more came out, it is just terrible I tell ya, pass me the bourbon and dubbie I can use it.

I would like to present my idea for a junkie concentration camp. Treatment center obviously dont work, and too many of the good results are few and far between. Round 'em all up and send to some "treatment" camp of sorts. We can torture the addiction right out of them.

I do no as well, that you can not say all of the people in rehab are not there for help. There are many people who have many years sober. Yes many are doin git for the worng reason but some are doing it for the right. I don't care either way anymore, keep locking your doors and worrying about being hit in the head and robbed at night in this little town. I do not think the people wanting the help should be turned away. Vote NO to the rehab and keep bit*hing about the addicts.

Why can't anyone understand that your kids are already exposed! There are teachers addicted to perscription drugs, church members,
doctors, lawyers, not just the ones you consider illiterate dumb hillbillys! Our town, our state, and our country are facing an epidemic. Pathways is located directly across the road from the middle school. The patients that go there are there for much of the same reasons. DRUGS, mental illness, even anger management! There has never been a problem there as far as I know. It is a shame that people are judging the people that have a heart for drug addicts by saying that they are doing it for money. There doing it because they want to help anyone who seeks it. They're doing it because they're caring, loving, Christians, whom God is using to make a change in his people.

Then why won't they just move it out of town?

These kind of places don't belong in the middle of town the same reason a prison doesn't belong in the middle of town. They build prisons in rural areas for a reason.

The people that will be helped in those classes are not necessarily criminals. Many will simply be people who want help, to learn, to find healing, from addictions. Some of you need to stop jumping to conclusions, and keeping this blown all out of proportion.
I agree completely with what "faith" just posted...there wasn't a problem when Pathways was downtown, near the Elementary school...nor now, where it is by the Middle school. This Center won't be near as dangerous to people, as the Pathways office,(and most people going there are forced). People going to that Center for classes, will be there cause they want help. Looks like the "spirit of ole' dictators from Louisa's past" has been resurrected, to stomp out progress again. What a caring attitude there, "don't ask me to sacrifice anything to help someone else,...you help 'em." The Good Samaritan would be proud! NOT.

Apparently you don't know much about addiction.

I have known someone that went to rehab several times only to relapse and steal stuff off of those closest to them to fuel their habit.

Most addicts don't decide they want help and end their addiction the first try.

Also, many people are ordered by the court to attend these places and if you don't want help it isn't going to work.

It would great if this worked all the time but the facts are that it doesn't.

In the meant time we have to protect our families and our property.

Do I want them to beat their addiction? Absolutely. Do I want them a group of them coming into my neighborhood knowing some of them don't want help? No. It is a threat to my family and my property.
