The Northumberland school board will meet 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10, at the school administration office at 2172 Northumberland Highway in Lottsburg to discuss criteria for the new superintendent search.

With 11 public hearings on its agenda, it wasn't surprising that the Northumberland County Board of Supervisors' meeting in Heathsville Thursday went on longer than most.

Two weeks ago, a crowd of approximately 200 had come to upbraid the school board about alleged sexual improprieties in the schools.

The Board apparently knew that the arrest last week of school resource officer Derek Jones on a charge of taking indecent liberties with a minor in his charge and a rumor that two employees at the high school had been caught in a compromising position in a closet had created a public uproar that would cause a crowd to be at the meeting.
